EKO Cyprus hosted a very special night to support the Karaiskakio Foundation

EKO Cyprus hosted a very special night to support the work of Karaiskakio Foundation

With absolute success, EKO Cyprus, a subsidiary of HELLENiQ ENERGY, held a charity dinner on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, as part of the 'Match For Life' campaign conducted in collaboration with the Karaiskakio Foundation. With the primary goal of enriching the Cyprus Bone Marrow Donor Registry with new donors, attendees had the opportunity to learn about the work of the Karaiskakio Foundation, the patients with leukemia and other hematological malignancies, and the ways they can contribute to Karaiskakio Foundation cause.

With the motto, 'What if one in 100 is you?', EKO Cyprus aims to raise public awareness in the effort to enrich the Registry with newly identified donors. According to the Foundation's available data, for every one hundred new donors registered, one may be a match and save a human life.

EKO Cyprus donated to the Karaiskakio Foundation an amount corresponding to the cost of identifying new donors, for every guest at the charity dinner, while attendees were also given the opportunity to make their own donations if they wished. A different touch to the charity event was added by the participation of Greece's top star Sakis Rouvas and the number one pop star Eleni Foureira.

The charity dinner marked the culmination of a series of actions that began in September, as part of the 'Match for Life' campaign, through which EKO Cyprus reaffirmed its support for the work of the Karaiskakio Foundation. These initiatives included, among others, sample collections for the registration of new volunteer bone marrow donors at the company's headquarters and stations – with significant participation from EKO's employees. Additional fundraising activities were organized through the pioneering EKO Smile consumer rewards program, while revenues were also donated from other services offered at EKO stations."

On behalf of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, the Minister of Health, Mr. Michalis Damianou, addressed the charity event, congratulating EKO Cyprus for its initiative and stating: “I would like to thank EKO Cyprus, for contributing to social development, cohesion, and the enhancement of social trust, through its crucial Corporate Social Responsibility Program. Let us not forget that offering help and volunteering, have the power to change the world.”

Greeting the event, the CEO of HELLENiQ ENERGY, Mr. Andreas Siamisis, stated: “HELLENiQ ENERGY has been consistently investing in Cyprus, creating significant value for the country's economy and society. This event is part of a broader program of active, targeted social participation, with pillars that include the Environment, the Future Generation, and of course, Health. The “Match For Life” initiative aims to inform and mobilize our fellow citizens in the effort to enrich the Cyprus Bone Marrow Donor Registry.”

In his address, the CEO of EKO Cyprus, Mr. Giorgos Grigoras, mentioned: “At EKO, contributing to society is a fundamental part of our DNA. When we designed the “Match For Life” campaign in collaboration with the Karaiskakio Foundation, our vision was to offer hope to those in need. We started with our own people at the headquarters, reached out to our customers through our station network, and tonight, we turn to all of you to embrace and support this initiative. Offering to our fellow humans is the highest virtue, and for that, we thank you deeply for supporting EKO’s efforts.”

The President of the Board of Directors of the Karaiskakio Foundation, Dr. Dimitris Andreopoulos thanked EKO and HELLENiQ ENERGY for their collaboration and noted: "In its 28 years of operation, Karaiskakio Foundation has evolved into a modern interdisciplinary center, among the best in the world, in the fields of hematology, oncology, cancer genetics, and the investigation of other rare diseases, always keeping people at the center of its care. Its vision has always been, and continues to be, the provision of high-quality healthcare services, with scientific expertise, professionalism, and respect, based on international scientific standards. Karaiskakio Foundation exists and operates thanks to the longstanding support from the state and society, but primarily due to the tangible contributions from its sponsors and supporters, such as EKO Cyprus."

The Karaiskakio Foundation has been battling over the years alongside patients with leukemia and other hematological conditions, rare forms of cancer, hereditary syndromes, cancer predispositions, and autoimmune diseases. The Foundation maintains the Bone Marrow Donor Registry and operates as a cutting-edge diagnostic center equipped with state-of-the-art technology. During the sample collection process to enrich the Cyprus Bone Marrow Donor Registry with new donors, EKO Cyprus employees registered as volunteers in the registry, hoping to give a second chance at life to a fellow human, if they are a compatible match.

HELLENiQ ENERGY and its subsidiary, EKO Cyprus, through a broad Corporate Responsibility action program, will continue to provide tangible support to the country's citizens, as well as strengthen the work of institutions and foundations that make a meaningful contribution to society.
