Match for Life: EKO Cyprus Campaign to Support the Volunteer Bone Marrow Donor Registry of the Karaiskakio Foundation

EKO Cyprus, in collaboration with the Karaiskakio Foundation, announced the launch of the "Match for Life" campaign at a Press Conference held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

With the slogan "What if the one in 100 is you?", EKO Cyprus, through the "Match for Life" campaign, aims to inform, raise awareness, and encourage the active participation of the public in the effort to bolster the Karaiskakio Foundation's volunteer bone marrow donor registry with new donors and facilitate their identification.

EKO Cyprus, a subsidiary of HELLENiQ ENERGY, launched this initiative as part of its Corporate Responsibility program, consistently supporting the work of organizations and foundations with meaningful contributions to society. Specifically, the company will provide significant financial support to the Karaiskakio Foundation and will implement a series of actions across Cyprus, actively supporting the program for registering and identifying new volunteer bone marrow donors. The program's implementation began during a press conference, where representatives of the Karaiskakio Foundation collected samples from media representatives and other attendees, followed by the staff of EKO Cyprus at the central offices.

In the same framework, EKO Cyprus has scheduled a series of additional actions, which include:
  • Collection of samples for the registration of new volunteer bone marrow donors at 20 of the company's service stations across Cyprus, with the assistance of Karaiskakio Foundation representatives.
  • Donating earnings from car washes to support the donor identification program.
  • Informational seminars and a campaign to encourage the voluntary registration of EKO Cyprus employees nationwide as bone marrow donors.

The "Match for Life" campaign will culminate with a charity dinner organized by EKO Cyprus, featuring top Greek stars Sakis Rouvas and Eleni Foureira. This charity dinner will serve as an opportunity for key social partners, clients, and collaborators of the company to learn about the program, to embrace it and actively promote it in turn.

It is worth noting that the Karaiskakio Foundation is a state-of-the-art diagnostic center, equipped with the latest technology. It is staffed with highly trained and experienced personnel, allowing for timely and accurate diagnoses, which are often crucial in the effective treatment of diseases and in improving the patient's quality of life over time. The Karaiskakio Foundation's Volunteer Donor Registry, with over 200,000 registered bone marrow donors, ranks first globally in proportion to population. According to data, for every hundred new donors registered, one may be a match and able to save a life. Therefore, with each new registration, the chances of finding a compatible donor increase, offering a new beginning to patients who truly need it.

Presenting the initiative, the CEO of EKO Cyprus, Mr. George Grigoras, stated:
"At EKO, we consider it our duty to contribute wholeheartedly to foundations that stand by our fellow human beings battling leukemia, rare forms of cancer, and other serious hematological conditions. The great work that the Karaiskakio Foundation contributes to society is reflected in real numbers and results: 1 in 100 donors will save a life! Together with the Karaiskakio Foundation, we envision a world where bone marrow donation becomes an act of life, an act that offers second chances to patients in need. We firmly believe that the power of change lies within each of us. Therefore, we invite all our partners and customers, as well as every individual citizen, to stand by us and participate in this organized effort. Together, we can create a better future for those who need it the most."

In his address, the Chairman of the Board of the Karaiskakio Foundation, Dr. Dimitris Andreopoulos, after thanking EKO and HELLENiQ ENERGY for their collaboration, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in supporting Non-Profit Organizations like the Karaiskakio Foundation, which has been carrying out significant work in society for the past 28 years, supporting vulnerable groups of patients through innovative scientific and social interventions. He highlighted that many of the Foundation's goals are achieved thanks to the unwavering support of the state, the contribution of ordinary people and volunteers, as well as its long-term sponsors and supporters, such as EKO Cyprus.

Dr. Andreopoulos expressed the hope that EKO's example will inspire others to follow suit, demonstrating their support and solidarity through various actions to further strengthen the Foundation's mission.

Bone marrow donor Antis Panayiotou and transplant recipient Augustinos Mesaritis shared their personal experiences with us, expressing their gratitude and the immense significance of registering as a volunteer donor for saving lives!

Once again, EKO Cyprus stands in active support of socially vulnerable groups and calls on everyone to support this effort for a world filled with smiles.
